This post is for my brother Dana, who has begun fight­ing can­cer and will soon undergo radi­a­tion to the throat and neck – which he informs us is the worst kind of radi­a­tion. Fol­lowed by chemo…

Dana has an amaz­ingly pos­i­tive atti­tude about his dis­ease and its prog­no­sis. He visu­al­izes a laser beam of light illu­mi­nat­ing and then trans­form­ing his can­cer­ous cells into healthy ones – or erad­i­cat­ing those that refuse to be trans­formed. Yes, he will undergo all that med­ical sci­ence chooses to throw at him. In spite of – or in addi­tion to medicine’s best capa­bil­i­ties — I think Dana sin­cerely believes that it will be the power of his trans­for­ma­tive wish­ing and prayer­ful expec­ta­tions that will bring him through this dis­ease a changed, but healthy man. Rein­forced by all the prayers and bless­ings that his friends and loved ones shower upon him.

May this bowl fill up with bless­ings and prayers for Dana. And may he receive the healthy trans­for­ma­tion that he’s work­ing so hard to bring about.

What makes Dana’s opti­mism so much more poignant is the fact that he is now the third per­son in his fam­ily to undergo can­cer treat­ment. He is fol­low­ing in the foot­steps of his wife and step­daugh­ter, both of whom are can­cer sur­vivors and fierce fight­ers. Surely an inspi­ra­tion to him.
