Recently I had the opportunity to try, in quick succession, Manduka's Eko mat, my long-time favorite Black Mat Pro, and Prana's Revolution Mat, co-designed with Anusara yoga founder John Friend. The Eko and Revolution mats are both rubber, sustainably made, but less comfortable than the old standby, Black Mat Pro. Slip prevention is still better (at least for me) on the Black Mat Pro.

I use the 85-inch model at home, and carry the standard 72-inch model to classes. When using the shorter mat, my hands or feet sometimes land off the mat in down dog or other extended poses. If the classes weren't so crowded, I'd carry my longer Black Mat Pro to the studio.

Good luck finding the right combination of size and comfort for your "tall girl-child."

Thanks for the info. I'm 6'5" and need a very long mat. With the standard 72" mat, either my hands or feet are off the mat in down-dog or W1 and W2. When I was in England for a year, I went through 3 mats. The first, awful. The second, 78" and somewhat sticky. The third is the best. It's 96 inches, wide and sticky. It's from Yoga-mad, called the WarriorMat. It's like a great, big black runway when I unroll it. I haven't seen any US company import them yet.

I am looking for a suitable mat for my tall, girl-child. I saw the 7-foot, Manduka pro on Amazon and will give it a try. Thanks for the recommendation.

And by the way, I love the skidless yoga towels, although I note they lose some of their efficacy after multiple washings...

I have read your article about the quest for the perfect yoga mat, take 2. It is very interesting and very informative. But I missed the take one of the article. I wish I can still have a chance to read that article.
